Warm Bodies, Out Now on Blu-ray and DVD

Life for Julie (Teresa Palmer) and R (Nicholas Hoult) couldn’t be more different. R is a zombie; with a great record collection; limited vocab and an overpowering love of brain food.  Julie is a human; beautiful; strong; open minded and all heart. When R makes an unexpected decision and rescues Julie from a zombie attack, his lifeless existence begins to have a purpose. As the unlikely relationship develops, R’s choice to protect her sets in motion a sequence of events that might just change both of their worlds forever.  Directed by Jonathan Levine (50/50) and based on the debut novel by Isaac Marion, the heart-warming Warm Bodies is 2013’s zom-rom-com with a twist.

Determined, highly-trained and resourceful, Sarah soon ingratiates herself with the group, overcoming their initial suspicions and joining them on their next action or “jam.” But living closely with the intensely committed members of The East, Sarah finds herself torn between her two worlds as she starts to connect with anarchist Benji (Alexander Skarsgård) and the rest of the collective, and awakens to the moral contradictions of her personal life

The East Festival Debut

Courtesy of Cinema Sauce:

The East starring Brit Marling (Another Earth), Alexander Skarsgård (True Blood), Ellen Page (Juno) and Patricia Clarkson (Station Agent) will be released in cinemas across the UK & Ireland on June 28th 2013. If you can’t wait that long, and we are sure you can’t, then you are in luck! The film is all set to be screened at both this year’s East End Film Festival and Edinburgh International Film Festival, both of which will be attended by the films director Zal Batmanglij.

Already one of the official selection at this year’s Sundance and SXSW Film Festivals, The East finds Director Zal Batmanglij teaming up once more with with actress/co-writer Brit Marling following in the footsteps of their critically acclaimed debut feature Sound of my Voice.

This tense espionage thriller pits Sarah Moss (Brit Marling) as she finds herself going deep undercover for her corporate security firm with a mysterious anarchist group that has been terrorizing corporate CEOs. The closer she gets to her targets the more she finds herself questioning the validity of her whole worldview.

Zombies Need Love Too!

Okay, *Warm Bodies is not your average Rom-Com BUT a Rom-Com it is!

Warm Bodies is not your average Zombie Movie BUT a Zombie Movie it is!!

Warm BodiesNow, the premise may be a weird one, boy meets girl, boy wants to eat girl, being a zombie and all but boy decides not to eat girl but instead, protects her from all the other brain-eating bozos out there.

The movie is based on the novel by Isaac Marion and adapted for the screen by Jonathan Levine.

From the outset the film let’s you know not to take it too seriously, that it is prepared to poke fun at its own premise and it brings you into the story without making it too campy or too serious.

With decent performances by the leads, Nicholas Hoult and Teresa Palmer it kept me entertained through to the end, in fact, surprisingly, making me root for the couple and the good zombies to succeed.

Don’t let the naysayers put you off by comparing this to the Twilight series of movies, saying it dumbs down Zombie flix the same way Twilight made a, supposed, mockery of the Vampire Genre.

Warm Bodies does not try to be anything other than it is and that is an entertaining movie with enough to keep me entertained and happy till the end.

I give Warm Bodies a healthy:
